WSF Media Impact on Google News

Looks like the WSF is getting reasonable coverage in the global press. From Google News we can see that there have been over 500 articles run (written or reprinted) in various online news sources about the World Social Forum. Not many of the articles seem to be in the influential ‘western’ press. There’s been no mention of it in the New York Times or the Washington Post.

I get the feeling that the WSF this time is not really considering itself a counter to the WEF, in fact nobody’s mentioned the WEF. In Porto Alegre it felt much more that this was a counter to the WEF, that people knew about the WEF, and were against it. Here it’s not the same world. In some ways the WSF feels like it isn’t playing in to the game of being ‘respectable’ to mainstream Europeans and Americans. In Brazil, I felt like they were trying to do that.
