Indymedia Redesigns & Incorporates Blogs

As part of it’s shift to using mir the New York City Indymedia Center has redesigned it’s site and added new functionality. They’ve split their newswire in to a section with entries for new york activist bloggers, and a section for the standard open publishing section. They’ve also taken a page from san francisco indymedia’s book and redesigned the way they do features. They are now more single article focused and magazine like. The new code also supports a tag like functionality, although it appears users can’t tag content, and the browsing interface is limited.

I’m really excited to see this innovation. There are tweaks, bugs, and design problems with the new site, but it’s a great step forward.

What could be added in the future are features like collaborative editing of articles, logins for users, user create-able groups, article sets, research space, link blogs, etc… But one step at a time. Congratulations to all the nyc folks who pushed through the new version of the site.
