Added Answers to the Indymedia FAQ
The
IMC FAQ's are way out of date and i've answered the same questions several times in help and other lists... So i added answers to
Why are upcoming events for Mexico listed in Latin America and not North America? and
Can I syndicate indymedia? What RSS and XML feeds for indymedia content do you provide? I also changed the answers for how much traffic does indymedia get, we were linking to the now dead logs.indymedia.org, and updated how do i get in touch with the indymedia office to link to the
contacts page that mark put together.
The problem we have is the FAQ started out as a flat file in just english. Now there are version in
Dutch,
Euskal (Basque),
French,
Italian,
Polish,
Spanish. This wasn't that big a deal as we almost never updated the FAQ. But now that i think about adding new answers, how will the translators know to keep their versions up to date. More of a problem, is getting answers in one language to the others. The Italians have keept adding to their version and expanding the answers, but not translating them back in to english.
All in all it's another in a long list of things we need to do. If you're an indymedia activist and want to help out, email me, and i'll help you get setup with
rt.indymedia.org and you can help answer the dozens of email requests that come in to help@indyand general@indy every day.

I've been thinking along the same lines as we add translations to riseup pages. Working on the non-profit debian distribution opened my eyes to the way that http://debian.org handles this very problem. It looks like it solves all these problems using WML and I hope to wrap my mind around it an implement it at riseup somepoint soon. It would be good to use this for the IMC also: http://www.debian.org/devel/website/translating
