A couple of weeks ago library to enjoy their wifi and work. It's not as cool as the Seattle library, but it's a nice enough place to spend an afternoon.
A little after 5, I noticed it was getting dark, and we decided to leave. Just as we were walking over to our bikes, i saw a guy bending over and doing something to where i'd left my bike. He was fiddling with the cable.
I said, "Hey, that's my bike!" and he just replied with "Oh, sorry," and walked off. I was so shocked at it that i didn't think to grab him or chase after him.
What kind of person applogises when they get caught stealing a bike?
There was a homeless guy watching the whole thing, he mentioned how nice the guy was in his getting caught, then he said i should get a better lock.
It's amazing the luck we had, catching him just in the act. Anyway, now i've got a cut bike lock cable, and have to go get a new one, something a little more hefty this time.
Posted by rabble at December 2, 2004 08:36 PM | TrackBackI had a similar experience. Only it was about 3 am and coincidentally on a street that runs infront of our main public library. But when I confronted the person about trying to steal my bike, he first apoligized, then tried to sell me a crack rcck, and when none of that worked and he realized that I wasn't going to unlock my bike untill he was long gone, he pulled a knife on me!
I talked my way out of the situation and left my bike where it was, knowing that he couldn't possibly get throught the lock on my bike. I returned the next day and it was still there.
Just thought I would share this wierdly coincidental experience.
