It's funny how similar companies can be. I've never met the folks up at the robot coop in seattle, but they seem to have a lot in common with odeo. Both companies are new web 2.0 startups with some employees who are big company alums. Amazon and Microsoft for the robots and Google and Palm for the odeos. We both are using agile techniques, a small team, some ajax, web services, and of course ruby on rails. Both companies even have two people with the same name, erik/eric at robot and evan at odeo. They've got the advantage of alternate spellings.
What is also interesting is that the office environment is pretty similar. We both have a big table setup for people to work at with lots of powerbooks. Look at how similar the photos look: the robot work table and odeo work table. I'm not going to get in to the whole good hackers use macs thing, but i do know that in odeo we only have one person left not using a mac. It's gaba and she develops the desktop client which runs on both windows and os x.
Posted by rabble at April 1, 2005 12:19 PMThere are a few notable differences, the most important being that you aren't a block away from Caffe Vita :)
Posted by: kellan at April 1, 2005 02:26 PMWe do have Cafe Centro on south park. It's within a block of the odeo offices.
